Networking is the word at the ASCAP EXPO. We all come here to meet and be met. As our good friend Dan Kimpel has told us many times, the key to successful networking is to distinguish yourself, to set yourself apart with an interesting touch that the person meeting you is sure to remember. This morning, one of the first people I had the pleasure of meeting was Van Dyke Parks, a truly wonderful songwriter, composer and arranger (among many other things) who was getting ready to speak with Rufus Wainwright on on of the EXPO's kickoff panels. He handed me his card, as is traditional in a friendly business encounter, and when I looked down to read it, it made me laugh out loud. Want to make sure that you are never forgotten by everyone you meet? A sense of humor never hurts. Bravo, Van Dyke.
